Recently I found a very effective way that directly control and change the ranking of your site for a given keyword, its called forum posts, and you won't believe how powerful it is in terms of both improving your ranking and getting visitors from forums and this is how its done:

This is easy to do all you need to do is to register on a forum that concerns with your niche and put the links to your site in your signature and start posting replys and participating in threads, this will give you many links on many pages. and its very effective especially from High PR forums, however keep in mind:

1 Try not to be spammy in your posts and provide useful posts
2 don't put many links in your signature
3 try to find High PR forums that has many members to make sure Google will index your posts fast.
4 try to vary your links anchor text
5 choose thread that contain your keywords in title and content
